A flame leans. Wax stays on one side. Smoke marks the glass. First describe what you saw. Then check the wick, wax, container, moving air and anything added. Fire still has ordinary causes when the candle is lit for an intention. A strange burn is not proof by itself.
Colour, flame, wax and smoke are different things to examine. Do not join them into a frightening answer before looking at the conditions. A candle mark cannot identify a person who wishes you harm. A quiet burn cannot guarantee that a request has been granted.
Keep safety ahead of interpretation. Follow the candle's instructions and consider the room, children, animals and shared air. You can stop a candle or choose no open flame. There is no duty to continue an unsafe burn so a ritual feels finished.
Separate the observation from the meaning
Low flame is an observation. Blocked intention is an interpretation. Write them separately. Notice what changed before the flame changed. Leave room for an ordinary explanation and for not knowing.

What should I record when watching a candle?
Record the candle type, wick condition, container, nearby draughts and what changed during the burn. Distinguish a brief flicker from repeated behaviour. Observe only while the candle is safely attended. A description of flame, smoke and wax can support discussion, but it cannot prove that a working succeeded or failed.
Does black soot mean a curse is present?
Black soot is not evidence of a curse. Wick length, fuel, airflow and the way a candle burns can affect soot. The first response should be to stop an unsafe burn and check the candle instructions. Spiritual interpretation must not turn an ordinary combustion sign into a frightening claim of certainty.
Should a candle be left burning until the work is finished?
A candle should not be left unattended to finish a spiritual working. Safety takes priority over completing a burn. Extinguish it before leaving or sleeping, and follow its instructions. A flame becoming unsafe is a reason to stop, not a test of commitment or proof that something is resisting you.
